How to Get a Paper Application for FAFSA

The preferred method for filling out your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is online. Not only does it save paper, it's faster. If you fill out your FAFSA online, you'll generally receive a response the next business day.

Nevertheless, there are circumstances where you may prefer to obtain a paper application. The processing time for paper applications is a bit longer (about three weeks). There are several ways to obtain a paper FAFSA application.

Instructions

1. Contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center. The center can be reached by calling 1-800-433-3243.

2. Wait to speak with a representative. Request a FAFSA application packet.

3. Provide your mailing address. Your application packet (including instructions and a return envelope) will be mailed to you within two weeks.

Tips & Warnings

• You can also obtain a paper FAFSA application packet by visiting your nearest public library.

• You can also print a FAFSA application from your computer. The application is in PDF format; you need Adobe Acrobat to view and print it. See the Resource section to download the application.

• You need a PIN before filling out your FAFSA application packet. You can obtain a PIN online, or by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center.
