How to Compress a DVD Movie to Burn
Digital movie files can ay be compressed and converted into DVD format for burning using a DVD authoring software such as Nero Vision or Roxio DVD It. A DVD authoring application will let the user import the movie files into the authoring interface, create and edit a DVD menu for the movie, and then burn the movie to a blank DVD in just a few easy steps.
Things You'll Need
- Computer with DVD burner
- Nero Vision or similar DVD authoring tool
- Blank DVD

Open the DVD authoring software such as Nero Vision or Roxio.

Select the "Make a DVD" from the interface menu.

Select "DVD-Video" from the context menu.

Click the "Import" button from the top navigation pane on the right.

Select "Import Files." The file navigator will open.

Double-click on the digital video file to import. Compatible digital file types include AVI, MPG, 3GP, FLV, WMV, among others.

Click the "Next" button. The menu creation interface will appear.

Select a template to use for the DVD menu.

Make changes to the DVD menu by creating a title and editing chapter text. Click "Next."

Click the "Pre-render" button to preview the DVD prior to burning. Click "Next" when finished.

Insert a blank DVD into the DVD burner on the computer.

Click the "Burn To..." link and select the DVD burner from the list.

Click the "Burn" button to compress and convert the digital movie and burn it to DVD.

Test the DVD in a standard DVD player.

Tips & Warnings
Nero offers trial versions of Nero Vision included with the Nero 9 Reloaded Trial Suite (See Resources).
Creating video DVDs is a time-consuming process. Plan on one or two hours per DVD.

I need a DVD authoring tool for my iMac, Nero is PC only. It would have been nice if you'd mentioned that in your article. Other than that, well done.
