How to Remove a Login Password in XP

The Windows XP operating system prompts you for a user name and password when you start the computer. However, you have the option to skip the password on machines in trusted areas. Using the Control Panel, you can set the option to skip the password requirement in the user configurations. Once this convenient option is set, users can click their profile name and log in without a password.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" menu button and select "Run." In the text box displayed, type "Control Userpasswords2" and press "Enter." This opens the user profile console for Windows XP.

    • 2

Select the user you want to allow automatic login. This should be a trusted user.

    • 3

Remove the check-mark labeled "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." Click "Apply" and then "Close" to save the settings.

    • 4

Reboot your Windows XP computer. Click the user name edited in the previous steps. No password screen will display and Windows will load without authentication.

Tips & Warnings

  • Because no password is required, your computer will be open to anyone logging into Windows. Make sure the machine is safely secured.
