How to Clean Motorcycle Fuel Injectors

To keep your motorcycle running in top condition, you must occasionally clean the fuel injectors. The main purpose of this task is to remove any contaminants from inside or outside the injectors that may impede the flow of fuel or degrade the fuel spray pattern. Cleaning the fuel injectors also helps to accurately measure the fuel flow ability of each injector and allows you to acquire data on the performance of your fuel injectors so that you can make adjustments as necessary.

Things You'll Need

• Rag
• Owner's manual
• Pressurized solvent

Instructions

1. Turn off the ignition to the motorcycle.

2. Locate the fuel injectors. Review the owner's manual for your make and model of bike to determine exactly where the fuel injectors are on your motorcycle.

3. Remove the fuel pump and stop up the fuel return with a rag to ensure that fuel is not being pumped into the engine when you start the ignition.

4. Attach a pressurized solvent (available at most automotive and motorcycle supply stores) to the fuel injectors and turn on the ignition. Follow the instructions on the pressurized solvent to attach it to the fuel injectors.

5. Turn off the engine and remove the pressurized solvent.

6. Reconnect the fuel lines and pump per the instructions in your owner's manual.

7. Start the engine and determine if the motorcycle is running better. If you don't notice a significant improvement, repeat the process.
