How to Copy a CD Image to a Hard Drive

To copy a CD image to a hard drive, the CD image must first be created by a CD burning tool such as Nero Burning ROM or Roxio Easy Media Creator. A CD image is a compressed file containing a duplicate copy of a CD. CD images may have the file extension of ISO, IMG, NRG or BIN. CD image files are typically large, so make sure plenty of hard drive space is available to copy the image.

    • ISO image files have a 2 GB limit. For CD or DVD image files larger than 2 GB, use the UDF option when creating an image.
