How to Sew Biblical Costumes
Biblical costumes are useful for different occasions, such as Halloween parties, costume parties, Christmas pageants or other church plays. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to find Biblical-era costumes in stores. When you do find them, they can be expensive. You can make basic Biblical-era costumes, which you can later customize according to specific Biblical characters.

1
Make a robe. Start by cutting out two pieces of fabric that are each as wide as your shoulders and long enough to reach from your neck to your feet.
-
2
Lay the two fabric pieces directly on top of each other, right sides together, and sew up the two longer sides, leaving the top 6 inches on each side open for the armholes.
-
-
3
Hem the bottom of the robe and sew the top together, leaving a 6-inch opening in the middle for the collar.
-
4
Cut the robe open straight down the middle in the front of the robe, starting at the middle of the collar. Hem the collar and the front opening of the robe.
-
5
To make sleeves, cut two pieces of fabric that are each 14 inches wide and long enough to reach from your shoulder to your wrist.
-
6
Fold the fabric in half, bringing the longer edges together and making sure the right side of the fabric is on the inside. Sew up the long side, opposite the fold. Hem one raw edge of the sleeve, and attach the other raw edge to one of the armholes, with right sides together. Repeat with the other sleeve.
-
7
Make a rope belt: Cut a piece of rope that is about 2 yards long, and tie it around your waist over the robe.
-
8
Make a head cover: Cut out a piece of fabric that is 18 inches square, and then hem this square of fabric all the way around.
-
9
Cut a piece of rope that is just long enough to tie around your head. Place the fabric from Step 8 on your head, and tie the rope around your head to keep the fabric in place.
