How to Make Handmade Crochet Headbands & Clips for Babies
Crochet headbands and hair accessories are light and comfortable on a baby's delicate skin. While you can purchase boutique crochet headbands and clips, these may be expensive. Make your own with nothing more than very basic crochet skills. Making handmade crochet hair accessories allows you to choose the color, style, size and materials that go on your precious baby girl.

1
Chain five, seven or nine stitches depending upon how wide you would like your finished crochet headband.
-
2
Single crochet by wrapping the yarn around the hook and pulling it through the second chain from the hook. Wrap the yarn over the hook again and pull through both loops. Double crochet in the next chain by wrapping the yarn around the hook, then passing the hook through the stitch. Wrap the yarn over the hook again and pull through the first two loops on the hook. Wrap the yarn over once more and pass through the remaining two loops. Continue working in a single crochet, double crochet pattern until you reach the end of your chain.

3
Turn your work and chain one. Work in an alternating single crochet, double crochet pattern to the end of row. Repeat this step until you have reached the desired length.
-
4
Make two crochet headbands, then stack the two lengths of crochet and single crochet through both thicknesses on the edges of each long side of the headband.
-
5
Thread elastic through the crochet baby headband. Sew elastic together so it forms a circle, then hand stitch the crochet baby headband together across the short ends.
-
6
With a new length of yarn, chain three stitches and join with a slip stitch. Chain one and work 10 single crochet stitches in the ring. Join with a slip stitch to the first chain in the ring. Chain two stitches and work one double crochet in each single crochet around the round and join with a slip stitch to finish one small crochet flower. Attach your flower to the crochet baby headband or sew onto small alligator-style hair clips.

When you sew the elastic crochet together, can you use a sewing machine? I've been attempting it tonight but it jams the machine. What am I doing wrong? Thank you!!
