   Get and Install AVG Free-Edition (Anti-Virus)

   One of the main reasons a computer is slow is a result of a bad and/or not up to date anti-virus. Therefore, the first step, when learning how fix a slow computer, is installing AVG. AVG Free-Edition is the top download on CNET's website and rightfully so. AVG provides the same valuable security that the "big" name Anti-Virus companies (i.e. Norton, Symantec, etc.) while not taking up as many computer resources.

   The more available resources... the faster your computer can process your requests.

   IMPORTANT NOTE: Once AVG is completely installed and updated, you will need to uninstall your old Anti-Virus to free up the space.

2. Glary Utilities

   Get and Install Glary Utilities

   Glary Utilities is a very user-friendly application that allows you to quickly remove unnecessary items on your computer (i.e. faulty registry files, broken shortcuts, junk files, temporary internet files, etc.).

   These files are unknowingly placed on your computer normal computer use like Internet Browsing, installing/uninstalling programs, file creation/deletion, and much more. Tips & Warnings

• It is very important to ensure that there are not any unnecessary programs on your computer. Unused programs take up unnecessary space.

• You can visually see the percentage of resources used at any given time by pressing CNTL+ALT+DEL and selecting the "Task Manager." At the bottom of the task manager is a percentage readout. A resting computer should not have a percentage readout of over 7-10%. If it does, you may have too many "Processes" running in the background.
