How to Have Great Emotional Intelligence Today
This may seem funny at first but success is often dependent on being able to work well with people. It is critical that we all improve our emotional intelligences and people skills if we want to improve ourselves. People with high emotional intelligence are typically successful because they are the people others want on their team, want to work with, want to help, and enjoy being around. These people are typically self aware, self regulating, motivated, empathetic, have great communication skills, and are team players. Not all of us have high emotional intelligence but we can learn and improve our emotional intelligence. Here is how to do just that.

First observe how you react to others. Do you make quick judgments, stereotype, or become avoidant? If so then try to put yourself in that person's place and think about how you would feel. Try to work on being more open minded and listening to them before you make any judgments.

Now look at how you interact at work. Do you always want to be center stage? Realize that everyone wants this so if you give others a chance to have this and put the focus on them, then they will enjoy your company more and work for you more.

Now examine how you react to stress. Do you get mad every time there is a delay or something doesn't happen the way you like? Do you get mad easy? Focus on taking a step back when these things happen and keeping your emotions in check.

The tough part is to take responsibility for your actions. If you hurt someone apologize directly. If you need to give bad new then do it to the person's fact. Show respect to others. This goes a long way. If you take responsibility the person may not like what you did but they will likely respect you and support you in the future.

5
The final step to increasing your emotional intelligence is examining how your actions affect others prior to taking those actions. If the actions will have an unavoidable negative impact on others think about how to help others deal with the impact.

Remember that emotional intelligence is very important to success. It is an awareness of your actions, you feelings, others' actions, others' feelings, and how they interconnect. It means caring about others and making them care about you.
