Here's some natural remedies on how to treat or cure hoarseness.

      Rest your voice.

      Take a rest.

      Taking enough time as much as needed to rest your voice is the best remedy. Silence will help restore your vocal cords. So, for the mean time rely on pen and paper to voice out your mind and rest your voice.

      Inhale steam.

      Inhale the steam from a hot shower is also a good treatment for treating hoarseness. You could also inhale the steam from a cooking rice.

      Calamansi juice.

      Drink warm calamansi juice. Lime juice would do too since both are citrus and are very similar.

      Squeeze 3 -4 calamansi fruit on a warm cup of water. Add 1 -2 teaspoons of sugar or according to taste.

      In addition to step 4, calamansi fruit can also be warmed and gently rub on your throat, re-warm as needed. (This is the whole fruit, you don't need to open the fruit. Just heat it on the microwave, warm enough to be felt on your throat.)

      Soup.

      Take some soup to treat your hoarseness if a cold caused it. The heat will create humidity.

      Also, taking a garlic supplement will help thin the mucus. You could mince a glove of fresh garlic, but if you hate the garlic smell that will linger on your breath, the supplement is a good alternative.

      Ginger tea.

      Drink ginger tea.

      Ginger tea can also help on treating hoarseness. It is use in the Philippines as a morning tea, specially in provinces and treats hoarseness, cold and cough.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid drinking cold beverage. And stay away from caffeine and alcoholic drinks.

  • Take some cough suppressant. It will help you control your cough, causing more damage to your vocal cords.

  • See your doctor if the hoarseness persist for more than a week.
