How to Replace a Mini PCI Card in a Compaq Presario
From sound cards and video controllers to SCSI cards and modems, there are many pieces of computer hardware that come in the form of mini PCI cards. By taking the time to learn how to install these common devices in your Presario, you can make your computer more useful and make yourself more productive.

Shut down your Presario and unplug the power cord from the back of the unit. Allow the computer to sit idle for a few minutes to dissipate any remaining electricity.

Place the computer on a flat surface such as a desk or a table. Locate the case retaining screws on the back of the computer, remove them and set them aside.

Slide the case off of the computer so that you can work inside the case. Locate the PCI slots on the motherboard. These slots will be white in color.

Remove the metal cover from the PCI slot by removing the screw that holds it in place. Place the screw and the cover aside.

Line up the connector on the PCI card with the PCI slot and push it down gently but firmly. Place the screw in the top of the PCI slot and secure it with a screwdriver.

Slide the case back on the computer and replace the retaining screws. Plug the power cord in and restart the computer.

Tips & Warnings
Keep a butter container, jar or pill bottle on hand to hold the retaining screws from the case.
Work in a room with hardwood floors instead of carpet. The carpeting could create static electricity that could harm your computer.
