1
Clean the barbecue grate before you begin grilling the pizza. A clean grate will ensure that burnt-on food does not drip down and cause an inferno inside the grill while your pizza cooks. If you use charcoal, spread the charcoal evenly across the bottom of the grill so the flames burn evenly.
-
2
Place the pizza stone on the center of the barbecue grill grate. Light the barbecue and turn on all four burners if using a family-sized pizza stone. If you have a small personal-sized pizza stone, move it to the center of one side of the barbecue grill and only use the two burners on the chosen side.

3
Prepare the pizza while the barbecue grill heats up. You can use the same pizza dough, cheese and toppings that you would use when cooking the pizza in a conventional oven. Place the pizza on a pizza peel and transfer the pizza to the stone when you have completed the assembly.
-
4
Turn the barbecue grill burners down to the lowest setting and close the lid. Rotate the pizza stone every few minutes to make sure that the pizza cooks evenly on all sides. Use a heavy pair of tongs to grip the stone and turn it.
-
5
Allow the pizza to cook for approximately 10 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese and crust cook to your liking. Use the tongs to move the pizza from the hot pizza stone to the pizza peel. Turn off the grill, and leave the stone in the barbecue grill to cool. Serve the pizza and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
The preferred method of cooking pizza on a barbecue uses a pizza stone, but if you do not have access to one, you can layer several pieces of aluminum foil together to create your own.
Never use an oven mitt to turn the stone. The oven mitt could catch fire and burn you in the process.
