Find a camera that has a remote control, or a video camera that has a lot of storage capacity. If you don't need video the Canon Elph 370 is a good choice as it has a remote control Otherwise you can use a video baby monitoring system, or a wireless web cam. Some of these also come with built-in motion sensors so you are not constantly recording. The Linksys WVC54GCA WIRELESS-G is a good choice.

Find a housing. You'll need something to hide the camera in, such as a box, a stuffed animal, or a pillow. Cut a hole in the item for the lens to look through and position the camera so it has an unobstructed view of the subject, without it being obvious that there is a camera present.

Hook your camera up to the Internet. If you have chosen the wireless camera then you can hook it up directly to the Internet provided that there is a nearby router that you have access to. You will need to sign up for a service such as HomeCamera.com to do this. Just go to the website and sign up for an account. As of 2009 it is still free although in the future they will charge for the service. Download the software and install it on your computer. You will then be able to access your camera from any laptop, or web-enabled PDA or phone.

Collect your camera and download the data. If you have decided not to use a wireless camera then collect your camera and download the information from the camera's memory card to your computer.
