How to Connect a Magnavox DVD Recorder to a Cable Box

Magnavox DVD recorders are equipped with component video jacks for connecting to a cable box for television programming. The RGB video cables are color-coded Red, Green and Blue for simplified connections between the Magnavox component and the cable box. A separate set of white and red audio cables are also used for transmitting the sound signal to the DVD recorder. Once those hookups are complete, it takes only another minute to connect identical sets of cables from the Magnavox DVD recorder to the television.

Things You'll Need

• Magnavox DVD recorder
• 2 sets of RGB component video cables
• 2 sets of standard RCA audio cables
• Cable box
• Television

Instructions

1. Insert the plugs on one set of RGB cables into the Magnavox DVD recorder's Video IN jacks, matching the Red, Green and Blue plugs to the color-coded jacks on the back of the recorder.

2. Connect the other ends to the Video OUT jacks on the cable box.

3. Attach the red and white plugs on a set of audio cables to the right and left Audio IN jacks on the Magnavox DVD recorder.

4. Insert the other ends into the color-matching Audio OUT jacks on the cable box.

5. Connect a second set of RGB video cables and audio cables to the Video and Audio OUT jacks on the Magnavox DVD recorder, then insert the other ends of the cables into the Video and Audio IN jacks on a television. The DVD recorder serves as a pass-through component for watching cable programs on TV or it can be used to record programming and burn shows to a DVD for a permanent copy.

Tips & Warnings

• Buy blank, recordable DVDs in bulk to save money and to ensure a disc will be available for spontaneous recording of a show, movie or sporting event.

• Unplug the equipment from the wall outlet while connecting audio/video cables.
