How to Copy From DVR to iPod

The old way of transferring music playlists from one computer to another---or backing music files up for storage---was copying the music to a CD or DVR disc. The new way of both transporting and playing music usually involves an iPod. Given that iPods have no way of directly reading a CD or DVR, the only way to transfer music from your old DVR-based music libraries or backups is by using your computer as an intermediary.

    Things You'll Need

    • USB cable

Insert the DVR into the disc drive of a computer with iTunes installed. Confirm, when prompted by iTunes, that you'd like to import the tracks from the disc to your iTunes library. If iTunes does not prompt you to import the tracks, highlight all the track titles, left click on them, and then drag them to the music library. Releasing the mouse button should begin the import process, which will take a few minutes.

Connect your iPod to your computer with a USB cable---usually this cable is provided with the iPod. In most cases the iPod will immediately sync with your computer, copying any tracks present in the computer music library---such as those you just imported---over to the iPod.

Click on the iPod where it's listed in the left panel of your iTunes screen. This will show the sync progress or, if the sync did not begin automatically, you can use this screen to start a sync of the entire library or to check only the newly imported items and sync those alone.
