How to Make Flavored Salt
Flavored salt has many uses in the kitchen in both food preparation and in seasoning prepared food. There are a variety of different ingredients you can use to flavor salt, depending upon the how you plan to use the salt. Consider using paprika, chili powder or even dried citrus peels to create delicious and mouthwatering flavored salts that will add a special flair to anything you prepare. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Coarse salt (1 cup for each recipe)
- Bowl
- Oranges, lemons or tangerines (five of each)
- Paring knife
- Baking sheet
- Food processor
- Paprika, chili powder, cumin powder or rosemary

Place 1 cup of coarse into the bowl and add 2 tbsp. of the desired spice.

Stir the ingredients well to mix them and pour the flavored salt into a container.

Seal the container and store it at room temperature for up to six months.
Citrus Flavored Salt

Wash the fruit and remove the rinds. Cut the rinds into strips approximately 1 inch wide and place the rind strips on the baking sheet in a single layer.

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees and turn it off.

Place the baking sheet into the oven and leave it in the oven to dry for approximately three hours (with the oven off).

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and process the citrus rinds in the food processor until they are a fine powder.

Place 1 cup of coarse salt into the bowl and add 2 tbsp. of citrus rind powder to the salt. Stir the ingredients well and pour into a container.

Seal the container and store it at room temperature. Use the citrus flavored salt within six months.

Tips & Warnings
Use your imagination to create a variety of different flavored salts. Use spices and herbs you enjoy and use the same ratio of 1 cup of coarse salt to 2 tbsp. of spices or herbs. The storage life will be the same.
