1
Find a stud or sturdy place to hang the sign. A decorative item this heavy needs to rest on a stud or a solid piece of wood, like a fence post or support beam. A great way to find the stud in a wall is with an electronic stud finder, which can be purchased for about $20 at a hardware store, according to ServiceMagic.com. If you don't have one, find an electrical outlet. Outlets are usually located on studs. Measure 16 inches out on either side from the stud to the next stud. Do this until you get to the spot you want to hang the sign.

2
Drive a long, thick nail diagonally (downward) into the spot you've chosen. If you found the stud, the nail should eventually catch and become more difficult to nail. This is a good thing. Keep nailing until short enough to not be distracting and still long enough to hold the sign.

Hang the top of the metal welcome sign from the nail. If the sign doesn't have a hole, drill one using a sharp, steel bit. If the sign has a piece of hanging wire across the back, hang the sign using the wire and adjust until straight. Make sure no pets or children are below you while hanging the sign.

4
Observe the nail and the metal sign to ensure they are sturdy enough and the sign is safely mounted.
