How to Make a Quilt From a Wedding Gown

Her wedding day is one of the most important days in a bride's life. Unfortunately, she only gets to wear her special dress once. Instead of letting the dress catch dust in the back of the closet, turn the gown into something special that you can use more than once, namely, a memory quilt. The quilt will make a stunning addition to the bride's home.

Instructions

  1. Prepare

    • 1

Have the dress professionally cleaned so the material is in the best condition for sewing.

    • 2

Go to a fabric store. Purchase a quilt pattern that you like. If needed, buy fabric in accent colors. You may not want an all-white quilt.

    • 3

Use the scissors to cut out the pattern from the wedding dress. Use pins to keep the pattern in place while cutting. If the dress has embroidery or beading, make sure that you showcase this on the finished quilt.

    Assembly

    • 4

Thread your sewing machine with the coordinating thread. Carefully sew the proper pieces together. Take time to make sure you do this accurately.

    • 5

After you have completed the front of the quilt, assemble the back of it. Cut out the needed amount of batting for the filling of the quilt.

    • 6

Sew the back and front of the quilt together with the batting in the middle. The wedding dress quilt is finished and ready for showcasing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fabric stores are an excellent resource for beginning quilters. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask one of the employees.

  • Do not try to multitask while making a quilt. The project will go much smoother if you give it your full attention.
