How to Type on a Blackberry Pearl Keyboard
The ability to text message is one of the hallmark features of smartphones like the Blackberry Pearl. Because it's smaller than other Blackberry models, the Pearl had to design a new keyboard to fit its compact size. This means that each individual key has two letter options, but this isn't as complicated as you may think. The Blackberry Pearl uses SureType technology that can guess the word you're attempting to type fairly accurately. Here's how it works.

How to Type on a Blackberry Pearl

Open the application in which you would like to type. Whether you are texting a friend, taking notes or composing an email, the SureType system on your Pearl will work the same way.

Find the first letters of the word you wish to type on the keypad. Each of the keys on a Blackberry Pearl has two letters assigned to it, so locating a letter shouldn't prove to difficult.

Type the first couple of letters. At this point a set of options will appear on a drop-down screen listing the words the system thinks you are trying to type, and a set of letter options that could be used to form a word. It bases these guesses on context and common letters in the word.

Select the word or letter set you are trying to type from the list of options and press the middle trackball to enter it into the screen. Continue with the process until you have finished typing.
