How to Cancel Hotwire Reservations
Hotwire is an online travel booking company that allows users to reserve hotel rooms, airline flights and rental cars. It also permits travelers to purchase cruise and other vacation packages. However, canceling some of Hotwire's available services without a trip protection insurance policy is not permitted. In addition, Hotwire users don't get to see the company name or other specifics of hotel rooms and flights---beyond the date and time range---before making a purchase.

Read your Hotwire email confirmation to see what you purchased. If it is a hotel, rental car or flight, you are not allowed to cancel it directly with Hotwire or the merchant. Thus, the credit or debit card charge is nonrefundable.
You must purchase a trip protection insurance policy to complete this task. Hotwire states you can purchase a policy from its partner, Access America, up to the date of your scheduled check-in (see Resources section). However, you must meet the insurer's standards of a bonafide emergency (such as illness or family member death), provide supporting documents and complete claim forms to receive a refund. Cancellations for non-emergency reasons, even with a trip protection plan, will not be accepted.
If you selected a cruise or vacation package, it can usually be canceled but Hotwire typically charges a penalty fee. Keep in mind that if you added a hotel or flight reservation to your cruise purchase, Hotwire will not refund that part of the transaction. Some cruise lines won't allow refunds; you must pursue a claim through trip cancellation insurance if you have a documented emergency.

Tell the operator you wish to cancel your cruise or vacation package. Ask for clarity on any monetary penalties if you do not understand. Also be sure to write down the cancellation number once your request is accepted by the Hotwire representative. If your credit or debit card is not refunded as promised, call Hotwire again.
