      Run a "Full System Scan" with your favorite antivirus software. If you don't have antivirus protection installed, the free AVG Antivirus performs as well as software that carries a fee. Delete any detected viruses.

      Run a "Full Scan" from your favorite anti-spyware software. Lavasoft offers a free version of their Ad-Aware suite that gets the job done. Delete or quarantine any traces of spyware or adware.

      Download HijackThis, a tool that detects and repairs damage to your system registry from malicious software.

      Open HijackThis and select "Scan." HijackThis will scan your computer and report any detected modifications to your system.

      Check the returned results and select "Fix Checked" to return them to their original state. If you are unsure of what you are doing at this point, only select the results that pertain to Internet Explorer. After fixing, restart your computer and your Internet Explorer should be returned to its default state.
