How to Convert a Picture to a Desktop Theme
Every Windows or Mac computer comes with a variety of images that users can select as a desktop theme. But you can customize your desktop to display nearly any image. Whether you find images on the Internet or download them from USB drives, cell phones, or cameras, you can use any picture you like as a desktop theme.

Find the picture you want to see on your desktop. The picture can be on your hard drive, a USB drive, or even the Internet: If you can display it on the screen you can make it part of your desktop theme.

Right-click on the picture and click on "Set as Background" (Windows XP) or "Set as Desktop Background" (Vista). After a brief pause, your desktop screen will display the picture.

Right-click on the desktop picture, then click on "Properties" (XP) or "Personalize" (Vista) to choose the display effect.

Click on the "Desktop" tab in Windows XP or "Desktop Background" in Vista.

Select "Center," "Tile" or "Stretch," and click on "Apply" then "OK" (XP) or "OK" (Vista) to change the appearance of the picture on the desktop.

Click on the "Apple" menu and click on "System Preferences."

Click on "Desktop & Screen Saver" and then click on the "Desktop" tab in the left pane below the "Places" heading.

Click on "Library" to open your photos in iPhoto or click on "Choose Folder" to locate and open the folder that contains the picture you want to convert to a desktop theme.

Click on the image you want to put it on the desktop.

Stretch, tile, or center the picture by selecting your preferred command from the pop-up menu that appears when you select a thumbnail. Change the look of the picture until you're satisfied with the way your desktop looks.
