How to Insert an MP3 File Into an Email

You can send any MP3 file in an email as long as it does not exceed the maximum size limit for the hosting server. On most free email hosts online, the maximum file size for an attachment is 10 megabytes (MB). According to services.fit.edu, the maximum file capacity for a private mailhost server is 25 MB. Sending 25 MB of data takes a long time, though, so try to stick to the 10-MB limit whenever possible.

Instructions

Sign in to your email account and prepare a new message. Depending on the email host you are using, you can click "New" for a new default message or select "Compose Mail" for a new email.

    • 2

Give your new message a unique title so the recipient will know what she is receiving. It's polite to include something like "MP3 file attached" or "MP3 enclosed" to alert her that it might take a while to download the message after she clicks on it.

    • 3

Insert the MP3 file. Depending on which host you're using, you might need to click "Attach a file" or "Insert" and "Attach file." This command will open a pop-up box where you can navigate to the MP3 file location. Click on the file name and select "Open" at the bottom of the pop-up window. Don't move on until you see that the file has been uploaded 100 percent. Usually, the upload status will be shown underneath the "Attach file" command.

Complete the body of the email by including any other information the receiver should know about the file you're sending. If it's something he asked for, remind him that you are sending the file he requested

Press "Send." If you do not wish to send the message yet, select the "Save as Draft" command. You can access this message later by signing in and clicking on the "Drafts" category, usually located on the left-hand side of the in-box pane.

Tips & Warnings

  • To check the size of your MP3 file before sending, navigate to its location on your computer, right-click the file name and select "Properties." This tab will tell you exactly how large the file is.

  • You can easily locate the MP3 file to send it to a recipient by copying the file and pasting it on your desktop. All you have to do is open the "Attach file" command and navigate to your desktop to find it instead of searching all over your hard drive for it.
