Instructions

    • 1

Buy biodegradable seed pots and potting soil. Fill the pots with potting soil. Water the potting soil until thoroughly damp. Lay three to four small seeds evenly over the top of the soil in each pot. Press to the depth directed on the seed package. Lightly cover with soil and water well.

    • 2

Put your plants in a sunny window or under commercial grow lights. Maintain the heat of the pots between 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Provide at least 12 hours of light during the germination process. Spray the soil with a water bottle whenever it begins to show signs of dryness.

    • 3

Look at your yard a few times during the daylight hours to find a planting location that receives at least eight hours of sunlight. Find a level area. Avoid steep hills and low areas that collect water runoff.

    • 4

Shovel soil additives into your topsoil. Add equal amounts of mulch and sand to hard soil. Incorporate this into the top 6 to 8 inches of soil. Use your garden shovel to turn the soil until well blended. Carefully plant your seedlings into the prepared soil after nighttime temperatures stay above freezing. Water your Gerber daisies whenever the surface soil starts to show signs of dryness.

    • 5

Watch your blossoms for the appearance of seed production. Get plastic bags ready to collect these seeds before they have an opportunity to drop from the blossom. Look for loosening of the mature seed in the center of the drying blossom. Place a plastic bag under the blossom and snip away the head of the flower, allowing the dry blossom to fall into the bag. Separate the seeds on a clean table or counter. Place newly harvested seeds in a cool, dry location until ready to plant.
