How to Level the Cutting Deck on a Troy-Bilt Lawn Mower

The mower deck is the removable piece underneath the lawn mower that houses the cutting blades. When it is properly level, each side will be at the same height and you will notice the machine cutting the grass evenly when you mow. If you need to level your Troy-Bilt lawn mower deck, the machine will cut the grass at an angle with each pass. This means that in the strip of cut grass, the grass on one side of the strip will be taller than the other side. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Park the Troy-Bilt lawn mower on a flat surface. Place the lift lever in the highest possible position. Rotate the cutting blades so they are perpendicular to the frame.

    • 2

Lower the cutting deck to the mid-height position. Measure the distance from the tip of both the left and right blade to the ground. If the distance is the same, your deck is level.

    • 3

Move to the left side of the Troy-Bilt lawn mower. Using your measurements, determine if you need to raise or lower the left side to make each side equal.

    • 4

Loosen the hex cap screw with a wrench. Look for this screw on the hanger bracket on the left side. Do not completely remove this screw.

    • 5

Turn the adjustment gear, located behind the hex cap screw, using a wrench. If you need to raise the left side, turn the gear clockwise. If you need to lower the left side, turn the gear counterclockwise.

    • 6

Measure from the tips of both the left and right cutting blade to determine when the cutting deck is level. Once the measurements are the same, tighten the hex cap screw.
