Launch Yahoo! Messenger and log in.

Click the "Messenger" menu at the top of the screen, then click "Preferences."

Click "Yahoo! Updates" on the left side of the screen, then click the "Customize Yahoo! Updates" button.

Remove the checks from the boxes labeled "Show Y! Updates from these sites," "Show alert" and "Show Y! Updates from these contacts."

Click "OK" to close each open window.

Tips & Warnings
To stop receiving Yahoo! Messenger Updates from a specific person, remove the check from that person's name rather than the "Show Y! Updates from these contacts" box.
