How to Repair the Soap Dish in a Bathtub

You'll need to buy a replacement dish to ensure its stability in the tile wall. • Replacement soap dish
• Fixed blade knife
• Measuring tape
• Duct tape
• Small vacuum
• Chisel

Instructions

1. Measure the size and dimensions of the soap dish that needs to be replaced.

2. Visit your local hardware store and purchase a replacement soap dish that is the same size and dimensions of the old soap dish. Match the color scheme to the bathroom wall tile.

3. Wear protective goggles when working with tile and other material that can irritate the eyes. Lie newspapers on the drain and inside the tub so that paint and debris won't get into and clog the pipes.

4. With a fixed blade knife, slice away the sealant from the old soap dish's perimeter. Cutting through the perimeter will help prevent unnecessary chipping and wall tile damage.

5. Use a chisel and hammer to remove the soap dish that is fixed to the bathroom wall tile.

6. Scrape away any paint or tile material to ensure a snug fit for the replacement soap dish. If needed, use a brush or a vacuum to remove any paint or tile debris.

7. Apply mortar to the bathroom wall according to the product labeling. Apply more mortar to the back of the replacement soap dish. Position the new soap dish on the wall, making sure that it sits flat on the wall. Hold the soap dish in place with temporary strips of duct tape until the mortar sets and cures.

8. Caulk and seal in the perimeter to ensure that the soap dish does not become displaced.
