How to Make Lacing Cards or Sewing Cards
There are many occasions when your child needs a quiet way to entertain herself. These may occur in places such as a car, church, concert, or even just at home. Lacing or sewing cards are the perfect solution for such occasions. Lacing cards are relatively easy to find in stores, but they can be expensive. Luckily, it's fun and easy to make your own inexpensive lacing cards right in your home. All you need are some common household supplies.

1
Find a picture on the Internet that is simple and has clearly defined lines. This picture may be of whatever you like, just as long as it has a clear outline.
-
2
Print the picture and cut all the way around the outline of the picture, leaving an inch of extra space all around.
-
-
3
Glue the picture onto a piece of cardboard. Cut off the excess cardboard around the edges. Place the cardboard piece in a laminating sleeve and laminate it.
-
4
Use a hole punch to punch holes through the laminated cardboard piece. The holes should follow the outline of the picture and should be about a 1/2 inch apart.
-
5
Tie a knot in one end of the shoelace so that it will not pull all the way through a hole on the card. Pull the shoelace through one of the holes until the knot stops it.

Tips & Warnings
If you do not have access to a laminating machine, wrap clear packaging tape completely around the card for a similar result.
If a shoelace is not long enough to be laced all around your picture, cut a piece of craft string to the proper length instead of using a shoelace.
