How to Decorate Soup Bowls
A ceramic bisque soup bowl is the perfect blank canvas on which to create your own unique decorative art. Perhaps you want to make a full set of soup bowls with a holiday or seasonal theme, or personalize one for a special occasion such as an anniversary, birthday or graduation. You can even design your pattern to match the color theme of your dining room.

Instructions

-
1
Purchase an unpainted ceramic bisque soup bowl. Stop by your local ceramic shop or make your purchase online.
-
2
Decide on pattern or design. Use a pencil and draw your design onto the bowl. Pencil marks will burn off during the firing process.
-
-
3
Sponge off your unpainted bisque soup bowl with cold water. This will remove dust particles and enable paint to better adhere to the bowl. Wait 3 minutes before you begin painting.
-
4
Paint your design onto the bisque bowl. Use a low-fire underglaze such as Duncan or Mayco. Have a variety of brushes on hand --- smaller ones for detail work and larger ones for painting wide areas of the surface. Allow the paint to dry. Wash the brushes in soap and water.
-
5
Coat the soup bowl with clear glaze. Allow the glaze to dry and then fire the bowl, either by returning the bowl to the place of purchase or at a local ceramics shop.
