How to Connect a Car Audio Wire Harness to a Dual Radio
Prior to the 1990s, it was fairly difficult to wire a car stereo into your existing system. But with new products on the market, it's a lot easier to connect a wiring harness to a vehicle. The Dual line of car stereos comes equipped with a harness that's plugged into the back of the deck and has wire leads running out of it. To connect that to a car audio harness--one that's specific to your vehicle--is not only easy, it can be done in about 15 minutes.
Things You'll Need
- Vehicle-specific wiring harness
- Wire cutters
- Wire crimpers
- Wire strippers
- Blue butt connectors

1
Place the wiring harness from the Dual car stereo in line with the vehicle-specific wiring harness so that the wire ends are facing each other.
-
2
Use the wire strippers to strip off 1/4 inch from the end of every wire in each harness. Then crimp a blue butt connector onto the end of each wire on the vehicle-specific harness using the wire crimpers.

Notice that each wire on each harness is color-coded, and on the side of each wire is a printed label telling you what the wire is. Car stereo manufacturers and vehicle-specific wiring harness manufacturers share the same color specs, so your goal is to connect each wire to the corresponding colored wire on the other harness.

Crimp each wire of the same color to the other using the wire crimpers. Slide the bare end of one wire into the blue butt connector on the other wire and crimp it in place. Repeat this process for each wire in the Dual radio harness until they're all matched up. Once they are, the harnesses are connected, and you can continue with your stereo installation.
