Open the Dell printer to take out the ink cartridges and place them on the piece of cardboard, which you will use as a work surface to avoid staining furniture with printer ink, which is very hard to wash off.

Find where the filling hole is located; if the filling hole is sealed, consult your printer manual or call Dell's customer support for more-detailed information on how to expose the filling hole. Take the syringe from your ink refill kit and gently force it into the sponge. Slowly push the ink into the sponge; do not push the ink in too fast or you risk expanding the sponge, which causes ink to flow out unevenly from the cartridge. Keep filling the cartridge with ink until the sponge appears moist. However, do not overfill. If you ink cartridge had a sealed filling hole, close it.

Clean the filling hole and the area around it until it is smudge-free. Replace the ink cartridge in your printer and test-print a few pages to see if everything is working as it should. The printer should be ready now.
