How to Find and Add Credit to a TransUnion Credit Reporting Agency

When you are building or repairing your credit, every little bit helps. Sometimes creditors will not contact the credit reporting agencies because they are small-time or through sheer negligence, and others are not eligible to be placed on the report. But if you want to have items placed on your credit report, there are ways to do it.

Examine your credit report. The first step to adding to your credit report is to find out what is already on it. By law, you're allowed one free credit report per year from credit bureaus like TransUnion. Order a credit report to find out what loans, credit cards, etc. are listed.

Compare to other reports. The three credit bureaus do not always list the same things, as some companies deal directly with one credit bureau in particular. If you want to find credit, then see what's listed in the Experian and Equifax reports as well. They will likely be slightly different.

Look through your bills. If you want to find new creditors to add your report, then they are likely sending you a monthly statement either by mail or e-mail. Take a month or so and carefully go through your mail for statements. Compare any creditor names to those on the TranUnion credit report.

Contact the creditors. If you see creditors that aren't listed on the TransUnion report, then contact them directly and ask them to report your information to the credit bureau. If they don't report to credit bureaus, they may not fulfill your request, but if they do and it was not done because of an oversight, your request should be filled quickly.

Talk to TransUnion. If you are getting nowhere with your creditors but you would still like to have them listed, contact TransUnion to let them know a credit was included on another report, or has not been reported at all. The credit bureau should reach out to the creditor and ask for their information.
