How to Create Icons for Google Maps
Whether you'd like to create a map for your website, one to share with your friends or a personalized map to upload to your GPS device, you might want to experiment with Google Maps. With Google Maps, if you enter in driving directions, you'll get pinpoints or icons for your starting point and destination. But it's possible to create icons for points of interest along the way as well.

4
Click the Place Mark Tool button, and then click on the map where you'd like to add the mark.

5
Fill out the information in the mini pop-up window that appears where you just clicked. Name your point of interest. If you click on the "Rich Text" option, you can do more than just create an icon. You can also upload an image that is hosted online to accompany the icon.
-
6
Save the entire map. Look back to the left-hand side of your "My Maps" section and you will see the button marked "Save." When you are finished with all your points of interest, save the map again and click "Done."
