How to Make a Cascade Red Rose Bouquet
A bouquet of cascading red roses is elegant, lush and romantic. A popular choice for a bridal bouquet, this design is captivating because of the way the roses seem to spill out of the bouquet holder's hands and fall down in a colorful, fragrant waterfall. Such a bouquet is both fun and easy to create. The following guidelines will show you how.
Things You'll Need
- Floral foam bouquet holder
- Empty vase with a mouth 3-to-4 inches in diameter
- Red roses
- Greenery and filler
- Water-filled buckets
- Florist's knife
Instructions

1
Slice the bottom half-inch to 1 inch from the stems of the roses, greenery and filler with a florist's knife. Place them in water-filled buckets, where they can remain hydrated while you assemble the bouquet.
-
2
Submerge a floral foam bouquet holder in water until it is completely saturated. Place an empty vase on the top of a work table, and fill it partially with water to give it added stability.
-
-
3
Remove the floral foam bouquet holder from the water and place it in the vase so that the plastic handle is inside and the floral foam is emerging out of the top. This will enable you to create the cascade with greater ease, as it is elevated a few feet above the ground.
-
4
Cut the greenery to your desired length and insert it into the floral foam. Place it around the circumference of the foam, and position longer pieces in the bottom-front portion of the foam to create the cascading shape.
-
5
Determine how long you want the cascade to fall, then use pieces of greenery that length in the bottom-front portion of your foam.
-
6
Cut the roses to your desired length and insert them into the foam, clustering several shorter roses around the top, front and sides. Insert long roses into the bottom-front portion of the foam so that their stems are angled toward the ceiling and their heads are pointing toward the floor.
-
7
Stagger the longer stems of roses that form the cascade to create dimension and flow. For example, insert a 6-inch long rose with its head pointing toward the floor, than an 8-inch-long rose behind that, a 12-inch long rose behind that and so on.
-
8
Add greens and filler as needed. Ensure that the plastic sides of the bouquet holder are not visible, and that the floral foam is completely covered by foliage and roses.

Tips & Warnings
Asparagus fern is an ideal type of greenery to use for cascading bouquets.
Use greenery to establish the shape of the cascade, and echo that shape with roses and filler.
Insert all greenery, rose and filler stems to a depth of at least 2 inches into the floral foam to ensure your bouquet will stay fresh and hydrated.
