How to Reset Internet Options in IE 7

Internet Explorer 7 has a "Reset" option. Choosing this option allows you to revert to the factory settings for your privacy, security and personal settings. If an installed add-on is causing a problem, this is usually the best way to fix it; resetting the browser automatically removes any installed add-ons. Make sure you know all of your account passwords before resetting Internet Explorer; once it is reset, they will be lost.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open your Internet Explorer browser.

    • 2

Click on the "Tools" arrow at the upper-right part of the screen. Choose "Internet Options."

    • 3

Select the tab labeled "Advanced" along the top of the options menu.

    • 4

Select "Reset" near the bottom. Choose whether to reset your personal options, such as browsing history, cookies and saved passwords. If you want to reset them, select the option under "Delete Personal Settings."

    • 5

Click on "Reset" to complete the process. Close your browser window, and then restart it for the factory-default settings to take effect.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also reset your privacy and security settings without completely resetting the browser. Choose "Tools>Internet Options>Privacy," and click "Default Level." Repeat the procedure for the "Security" tab.
