Use both your nose and eyes to find the dog stains on your carpet. Once a stain dries, it can be difficult to see. However, it will still produce a very strong odor. If you can smell the odor but still can't locate the stain, use a black light. Completely darken the room; turn all the lights off and close the curtains. It must be dark for the black light to work properly. Turn the black light on and sweep it over the carpet; dog urine stains will fluoresce under the black light.

Mix together equal parts white vinegar and water. Spray this mixture liberally onto the dog stains and allow a few minutes for the solution to penetrate into the carpet fibers. Use a carpet brush to vigorously scrub in the solution. Then blot the area with several paper towels.

Once the area has dried, sprinkle a large handful of baking soda on the carpet. Mix together 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide with 1 teaspoon of laundry or dishwashing detergent. While wearing gloves, carefully pour this mixture over the baking soda. As the baking soda begins to dissolve, use your fingers to massage the solution into the carpet. After about 30 seconds of using your fingers, switch to a carpet brush to rub the solution even further into the carpet fibers.

Wait for the carpet to dry completely and then vacuum over the area to remove any residue. If the dog stain is still visible, repeat the previous steps until the stain has been removed. Once the dog stain is removed from the carpet, liberally spray a pet odor neutralizer on the area. This should eliminate any lingering odors from the carpet.
