How to Convert WMV to QuickTime for Free
The Windows Media Video (WMV) video format is not compatible with the programs that are used on a Macintosh. Converting a WMV video file to a QuickTime MOV video file enables compatibility not only on Macs, but also on Windows-based computers since the QuickTime program runs on both platforms. Converting a WMV file to a QuickTime MOV video file can be done without any software by uploading the file to a video conversion website. The website will convert the WMV file to a MOV file for free, and then the MOV file can be downloaded to the computer's hard drive.

Go to an online video conversion website, such as the Media Converter website (see link in Resources below). Click on the "Upload a File" button. Click on the "Browse" button in the new webpage that appears.

Select a QuickTime movie from the computer's hard drive in the window that has appeared over the Media Converter website. Click on the "Open" button at the bottom of the window to close the window. Click on the "OK" button on the webpage.

Click on the "Go to the next step" icon on the web page. Click on the drop-down menu below "Select an output file type" and highlight "MOV." Click on the "OK" button on the webpage.

Click on the "Start" button on the web page to begin the online conversion of the WMV file into a QuickTime MOV video file.

Click on the "Save" button on the webpage that appears when the WMV file has been converted into a MOV file. Navigate to where you want the video file saved on the computer's hard drive in the window that appears.

Name the MOV video file in the top column of the window. Click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the window to save the file.
