How to Disable AVG Anti-Virus

AVG is an anti-virus application that protects your computer from malicious programs such as trojans, viruses, worms and spyware. It monitors your computer in real time, and alerts you of possible intrusions and dangerous files trying to gain access to your computer. However, you can easily disable or re-enable AVG anytime you want.

Instructions

1. Right-click the AVG anti-virus icon from the system tray and click "Open AVG User Interface." Disable email scanning. To do so, double-click "Email Scanner" on the User Interface and uncheck the "Scan incoming messages" and "Scan outgoing messages" check-boxes.

2. Double-click "Resident Shield" on the AVG User Interface and uncheck the "Resident Shield Active" check-box. Click "Save changes."

3. To disable AVG completely, click the Windows "Start" menu and click "Run" (Windows XP) or "Start Search" (Windows Vista and 7). Type "services.msc" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to launch the Services Console.

4. Scroll down the Services Console and right-click "AVG." Click "Properties." Click "Stop" to shut down the application.
