How to Preserve Dried Fruit

Dried fruits and other foods like beef jerky are a popular source of nutrients used by hikers and many hunters. Once dried, these foods can be preserved for an indefinite amount of time provided they've been stored in an air tight container. Popular dried fruits are banana chips, berries, oranges and cantaloupe. Preserving and storing dried fruits and other foods can be accomplished with ease. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

      Place the dried fruits into the plastic container or a zip lock storage bag. You can shrink wrap the fruits if you prefer, but a good air tight container works fine.

      Keep the container in a cool dry area, like a cupboard that isn't near a heat source, in your kitchen away from light.

      Place the container of dried fruit in the refrigerator during hot summer months, or when the temperature in your kitchen exceeds 70 degrees. After the fruits are removed from the refrigerator, it is best to eat them within a month due to the moisture that will condense after removal.
