How to Connect a Microphone on Skype

Skype is a VOIP (Voice-Over Internet Protocol) and Instant Messenger service that allows users to create and build friends lists, as well as make calls to telephones and cell phones directly from the PC. Connecting a microphone on Skype is a simple process that requires little more than plugging the microphone into your computer.

1. Plug your microphone into your computer. If your microphone is USB, plug it into a USB port and wait for your computer to recognize the hardware connected to your PC. If your microphone plugs in through the audio ports, either connect it to the sound card or the front microphone port on the tower.

2. Boot Skype. If you don't have Skype on your PC, download it to your computer. You can download it from the reference link below.

3. Enter your Skype options screen, which can be found under the "Tools" tab. Inside the options menu, select "Audio settings" to bring up a series of audio options.

4. Select the audio output that your microphone is connected to from the drop-down list. If you do not know which output your microphone is connected to, speak into the microphone as you go through the options one-by-one until you see a green bar in the volume bar.
