How to Disable Symantec Antivirus 9

Sometimes certain programs don't play nice during installation if antivirus programs are running. There's no need to go through complicated uninstallation processes before you install that new software on your computer; simply disable the antivirus temporarily. Follow this guide to disable any version of Symantec.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Symantec Antivirus. Select "Change Settings" from the lefthand sidebar.

      Select "Configure Settings" for Antivirus and Anti-spyware Protection.

      Select the File System Auto-Protect tab. Uncheck "Enable System Auto-Protect" and select "OK."

    • 4

      Select "Configure Settings" for Proactive Threat Protection.

    • 5

      Select the Scan Details tab. Uncheck "Scan for trojans and worms" as well as "Scan for keyloggers" and select "OK." Your Symantec Antivirus is now disabled. To re-enable the software, simply re-check the options in the Configure Settings options that you turned off.
