How to Shoot Boudoir Photos of Yourself

Boudoir photos used to be a very common gift for women to give their husbands. Bring back the tradition and set up a boudoir photo session, which can yield treasured anniversary, birthday or Valentine's Day gifts. The thing that stops most people is the thought of getting naked or in intimate attire in front of a photographer. Taking the photos yourself allows you to be more relaxed and comfortable; you won't feel like you have someone staring at your body and critiquing it. These photos will be sure to drive your man wild, as he stares at his very own pin-up girl.

Set the scene. Dress up your bedroom, a hotel room or other location to set the scene. Make it simple yet sexy. Think about the lighting conditions and color scheme. Candles and lamps can create a sultry environment. If posing on a bed, think about the sheets. Dark sheets are best, since they absorb light instead of reflecting it on your skin.

    • 2

Do your hair and make-up. Decide what kind of look you want. You can be completely made-up, natural, have messy bed head or any other variation. Try a couple different looks, and change between shots.

    • 3

Get dressed up, or shall I say down. Choose your outfits and put one on. You can try a couple different looks. Maybe put on a fun costume such as a sexy maid, or a pair of panties along with his tie and nothing else. A couple different outfits or looks will give you options later on when you're comparing your photos.

Position your camera on a tripod and adjust the settings. Set the camera up so it will shoot directly at where you plan on posing. Adjust the settings so the camera will take a picture in delayed mode or when you use a remote.

    • 5

Take test shots. Use a stuffed animal or doll to take some test shots of the location of the camera. Then jump in front of the camera yourself and take a couple test shots. Look them over on the screen to see what you might need to adjust, then get ready to start the photo session.

    • 6

Have fun with the shoot. Just be yourself. Play some music or have a glass of wine to loosen you up and make you feel sexy.

    • 7

Make adjustments to the photos if necessary. Use Photoshop to crop a shot, perfect an imperfection on your body or fix the lighting to improve the conditions and erase any flashbulb spots or contrast issues.
