Instructions

  1. Installing the phone jack

    • 1

Decide where you would like to place the new jack and locate the wall stud.

    • 2

Mark the wall stud for the location of the jack.

    • 3

Outline the wall box with a pencil at the edge of the stud.

    • 4

Use a drywall saw to cut out the opening for the box.

    • 5

Run the wire through the wall, pulling from the new jack to the nearest existing jack, leaving no less than 10 inches of additional wire through the knockout in the box.

    • 6

      Attach the box with screws.

    • 7

Strip 3/8 of an inch of the protective coating from the end of each wire.

    • 8

Connect the wire to the screws in the jack plate by color (red to red, etc.)

    • 9

Secure the jack plate with screws.

    • 10

Plug your device into the new jack and test it by making a phone call, sending an email or sending a fax to a friend.
