How to Use a Protimeter Moisture Meter

Wet lumber poses risks to the building process and the finished structure. Wet lumber will become deformed even after being fastened to other framing members. This will result in cracked and deformed drywall and warped framing around doors and windows. Too much moisture also will cause the lumber to decay and lead to mold and mildew. One way to make sure lumber is dry is with a moisture meter to measure dampness. Does this Spark an idea?

      Expose electrodes by removing cap.

      Press and release the "On" button.

    • 3

      Check to be sure the battery light is illuminated. Replace battery if light is flashing.

      Push the electrodes into the material to be tested.

    • 5

      Read the results on the screen and note the color-coded zone associated with the reading. Green means the material is safe. Yellow signifies it has higher than optimal moisture but is not critical. Red means the material has excessive moisture.

Tips & Warnings

  • This meter can be calibrated by holding the electrodes against the Protimeter Calchek device.
