How to Capture a Web Page in Vista

Screen capture software makes it possible to capture and save an image of a Web page. The Windows Vista operating system now has a built-in tool for this purpose. Vista users no longer need to download and learn to use complicated screen capture applications. Computer users often need a simple way to save entire Web pages because the content changes daily on many pages. The Windows Vista "Snipping Tool" saves time by allowing users to capture anything visible on the computer desktop in a matter of seconds.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the little Microsoft window image in the bottom left of the desktop. This is the "Start Menu" and opens up a menu of the programs on the computer. Click on the "Start Search" message at the bottom of the menu and type "Snipping Tool." A link to the Snipping Tool appears in the "Programs" section on the left side. Click on that to open the tool. Users can also find the Snipping Tool by clicking on "All Programs" and then "Accessories." Click on "Snipping Tool" in the Accessories menu that appears on the left side.

    • 2

Click on "Options" when the Snipping Tool opens. Check or uncheck desired options and then click the "OK" button. Click the "New" button next to the "Cancel" button. A white overlay covers the entire computer screen, which means that the tool is ready to capture an image of a Web page or any part of the desktop. A "plus" (+) symbol appears.

    • 3

Move that plus symbol to the bottom left of the Web page or image to be captured and then hold down on the left mouse button. Move the mouse until the red outline covers the whole image, and then capture a Web page by releasing the left mouse button. A window of the captured image with the Snipping Tool menu appears.

    • 4

Use the pen or highlighter to write on an image. Move the small red dot and then hold down on the left mouse button to write or highlight. The eraser function erases anything written or highlighted on the image.

    • 5

Save the image for later use. Users can also click on the envelope image and send the captured image through a POP3 or IMAP email account. Users must set up Outlook Express to use this feature (see Resources section). Some free email providers may also allow Outlook Express through an HTTP email system.

Tips & Warnings
