How to Create a Homemade Fireplace Out of Cardboard
A fireplace provides a warm location in the home for you to gather with family. As a natural focal point of the room, it accentuates the surroundings. You can display special memorabilia above the fireplace on the mantel. However, if you don't have a fireplace, you can create a cardboard box fireplace that will spruce up a room or serve as a craft to do with kids. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

1
Assemble your 18-inch square boxes to use in your fireplace cardboard craft. On each box, leave the top flap open, but seal the other flaps closed with packing tape.
-
2
Stack one square box on top of the other. The open flaps should open the same side, much like a door. Use packing tape to secure open flaps together. Repeat with the other two boxes, making sure flaps open in the opposite direction from the first two boxes.
-
-
3
Put all four square boxes together so the open flaps meet in the middle. Seal off seams and edges with packing tape. This creates a smooth surface ideal for painting.
-
4
Paint brick designs using brown, red, and cream acrylic paint. Paint bricks so they run horizontally across the fireplace. Make sure you add a cream line between each brick so it looks like mortar.
-
5
Build two 28" x 20" x 5" rectangular boxes. Tape them together so their ends meet up against each other.
-
6
Paint your rectangular boxes to look like a mantel. For a marbled gray surface, mix black and white paints and use a damp rag and apply the gray to your mantel in swirls. Allow your painted pieces to dry completely.
-
7
Place the gray mantel piece on top of the brick hearth to construct your cardboard fireplace.
