How to Control the Dictionary Adobe Reader Opens

Adobe Reader is a free program created by Adobe Systems that allows users to open and view PDF documents. Adobe Reader is often packaged with other software as a convenience, because the cross-platform PDF is a standard format for publishing and sharing files, both for Windows and Mac users. Adobe Reader includes several dictionaries, including American, Canadian and U.K. English. Users can set which dictionary or dictionaries load when Adobe Reader is started.

      Open Adobe Reader and go to the "Edit" menu. Choose the "Preferences" option from this menu.

      Choose the "Spelling" option from the list of categories.

      Highlight each dictionary you want to use and click the "Check" button to set that particular dictionary to load when you open Adobe Reader. You can check multiple dictionaries to load on start-up.

      Highlight a dictionary and use the "Up" or "Down" button to move the dictionary in your list up or down. This allows you to dictate which dictionary Adobe Reader searches first.
