How to Lease Warehouse Equipment

Warehouse equipment such as motorized forklifts, manual lifts, box-scanning machines, storage racks, power movers, pallets, and other machines and material can all be leased. Doing so is expensive over the long term, but you can save a lot of money if the material stored in the warehouse doesn't need to be moved frequently.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the machines and material you will need to lease before contacting a warehouse rental company. Measure the warehouse space. Figure out how much of everything you'll need for moving items into and out of the warehouse during your rental period.

    • 2

Find a warehouse equipment rental company. If you're having trouble, ask for references from warehouse operators in your area. Pay attention to where the company is located relative to your warehouse. Transportation costs and other fees can add up quickly.

    • 3

Figure out the needs of your employees before deciding how much and what kinds of equipment to rent. Power lifts and forklifts require special licenses to operate. If you don't have such an individual on staff or can't afford to put someone through the training, you may want to stick with mechanical lifts instead. These are only slightly less functional than the powered variety, and they are safer to use and less expensive to rent.

    • 4

Sign a rental agreement with a reputable equipment leasing company. You will need to put down a deposit on your rental. You may also have to pay for insurance. There's also usually a minimum rental payment. Ensure that you can rent more equipment from the company quickly if needed.

    • 5

Return the items on time. To reduce the amount of rental time needed, consider using a temporary employment agency to find short-term workers to move the warehouse goods.
