How to Change the Font in Adobe Photoshop CS4

Adobe.com says Adobe Photoshop CS4 is the professional standard in image editors. Photoshop CS4 introduced new features like the adjustments panel, masks panel and content-aware scaling to streamline common image editing tasks. Photoshop is a powerful application and learning the software can be difficult when many instructional guides skip the simpler tasks, such as changing fonts. Here's how you change font settings in Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Instructions

    • 1

Start Photoshop CS4 on your computer. If it is your first time opening Photoshop since you installed the software, a license agreement open. Click "Accept."

    • 2

Click "File" and select "New" to create a new document. Click "OK" to create the new document after setting the width, height and background contents of the new file.

    • 3

Choose the "Horizontal Type Tool" from the toolbar on the left side of Photoshop CS4's default layout. The type tool is displayed in the menu as a "t."

    • 4

Click the Horizontal Type Tool in the new document you have created. Then type your text on the new text layer that is automatically created by the type tool.

    • 5

Select (or highlight) the text you typed on the text layer. Locate the font drop-down menu at the top of the Photoshop CS4 interface, directly under the menu bar.

    • 6

Choose and click the font you would like to use from the drop-down menu. The selected text layer automatically changes to the new font you choose.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the color tool to change the hue of selected text. Remember to save your files with the layers and layer types intact if you want to edit the text later.
