How to Reset Internet Options in XP
While troubleshooting an Internet connectivity issue, you may be tempted to change the Internet options on your Windows XP computer to resolve the issue yourself, rather than waiting on hold to speak with someone at your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Once these settings have been changed, however, you may have difficulty determining how to roll the computer back to its previous configuration. Complete the Windows XP New Connection Wizard to configure your computer for Internet connectivity. These settings will work for the majority of broadband or home network connections.

Tips & Warnings
This article does not outline the steps required to set up a connection that uses a dial-up modem, or a connection that requires authentication, such as some types of DSL connections. These types of connections require certain configuration details that are unique to your Internet Service Provider and include a user name and password that belong solely to you. If you have accidentally deleted these configuration options, contact your Internet Service Provider for information on resetting these options to their original values.
